Lucknow is a city that enchants you with its charm but also challenges your patience with its scorching heat, chaotic traffic, and occasional lack of cleanliness. It’s a fascinating mix of modern infrastructure and timeless heritage—some parts leave you in awe, while others might make you cringe a little.Having grown up in Kathmandu, I’ve always had a soft spot for traditional architecture, and Lucknow’s historic lanes—especially in the old city—instantly felt familiar, almost like home. At the same time, the city’s modern developments left me impressed (and a little envious!). The newly transformed CCS International Airport is sleek and efficient—I couldn’t help but wish for something similar back home. The city also boasts plenty of open green spaces, well-maintained roads (far better than ours!), and a clean, affordable metro rail system that makes getting around a breeze. Even the taxis were surprisingly pleasant—no haggling or rude drivers!
Of course, there are quirks. The constant, unnecessary honking turns the streets into a noisy battleground, and open drains in some areas bring unwelcome smells. A little more discipline and civic sense could easily fix these issues.
But despite its flaws, I’ve completely fallen for this city. The warmth of its people, the richness of its culture, and the perfect balance of old and new make Lucknow unforgettable. If you can handle a little chaos, this place will reward you with endless charm.
