Road in village

This photo was taken in 2011 in the southeastern part of Rolpa during our fieldwork, where a new road had just reached the village. The whole community was excited and hopeful, looking forward to the positive changes the road would bring. In just eight years, the village had changed a lot compared to what it was before.
A road is more than just a way to travel—it brings huge benefits to communities. It connects people to markets, schools, hospitals, and other essential services. For remote areas, having a road can mean new opportunities for business, easier access to goods, and an overall better quality of life.
The transformation of this village shows how something as simple as a road can help a community grow and develop, playing a key role in the progress of a whole country.
